Lazio president, Sergio Cragnotti has said he will only sell Alessandro Nesta to Juventus if Edgar Davids is part of the deal.

With Lazio demanding cash plus a player, or Cristian Zanetti in the case of Inter, the deal seems to have ground to a halt.

Inter chief, Massimo Moratti has offered Emre Belozoglu or Nicola Ventola, but is stopping short of substantially weakening the squad by including Zanetti in the deal.

Despite claiming yesterday that a deal with Inter would be completed by the weekend, the Lazio president admitted after talks: “It is 99 per cent certain that Nesta will stay. The chapter regarding Inter and Nesta is closed, there is no agreement.”

With Inter out of the running for the signature of the Italian defender, Cragnotti said he will be prepared to accept offers from Juventus, but only if Dutch midfielder Davids is included in the deal.

“Are Juve in the race? Yes, they are still in the race, but they also know that we want Davids. If Davids wants to come we are waiting for him.”
