Middlesbrough have been dealt a huge blow with the news that Gaizka Mendieta will miss the rest of the season with a knee ligament injury.
The Spaniard suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament during Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Portsmouth and now requires surgery.
Boro were hopeful that the injury was just a strain, but tests on Tuesday revealed the full extent of the damage.
