Former German international midfielder Andreas Moeller has decided to hang up his boots and will terminate his contract at struggling Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt with immediate effect.

“I will end playing now, take a break and then find a new direction,” said Moeller, who was renowned for his combative midfield presence.

Moeller was part of Germany’s 1990 World Cup winning squad and helped Germany to European Championship success in 1996.

Moeller earned 85 international caps from 1988 to 1999. At club level, he won two Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund and the Champions League in 1997.

“The situation was no longer viable. It was not a sudden decision, as it’s been brewing up in me for a long time. I don’t want to be a burden for Eintracht any more,” said Moeller.
