Montpellier coach Michel Mezy has been sacked for presiding over a sequence of ‘bad results’, the French first division club’s chairman Louis Nicollin has confirmed.

‘A new manager will be named as soon as possible,’ Nicollin added.

Mezy, 54, had been in charge at Montpellier since October 1999.

Montpellier are lying 18th in the 20-club first division and drew 2-2 at home to fellow-strugglers Troyes at the weekend.
