Manchester United defender Gary Neville is expected to be out for four weeks after tests revealed he had suffered a hairline fracture in England’s 2-1 World Cup qualifying victory over Poland last Wednesday.

“Gary has a hairline fracture in his left knee cap and we expect him to be out for between three and four weeks,” said a United spokeswoman.

Neville is definitely out of the October World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Azerbaijan amd will miss United’s Premiership matches against Liverpool, Tottenham and Middlesbrough.

Moreover, Neville will miss the Champion League opener against Lyon on Wednesday.
