Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that finding a new striker is priority when the transfer window re-opens in January.

United have struggled to score goals in domestic football this season and with Ruud Van Nistelrooy carrying a worrying hamstring injury, there is precious little cover at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a capable deputy, but last season’s signing Diego Forlan has scored just once sincejoining the club, and that from the penalty spot.

On the club’s official website, Ferguson admitted that his attack is the one area that is causing him concern at the moment.

“The only thing is to buy for the league alone becausewe are a bit light in that department,’ confirmed Ferguson.

‘If you look down the list of top strikers, they have all played European football.”
