Parma have named Mario Beretta as their new coach, replacing Pietro Carmignani, who stood down at the end of the season.

Beretta, 45, was previously in charge of Chievo, who sacked him three games from the end of the season as the team battled relegation.

Parma have spent 15 seasons in Serie A, but have battled financial problems in recent years. Many key playuers were sold off following the collapse of parent company Parmalat in December 2003 and last season the club only stayed in the top flight after winning a relegation play-off against Bologna.
