Arsenal midfielder Jermaine Pennant has pleaded guilty to drink-driving and driving while disqualified and has been warned he could be sent to jail.

Pennant, 22, who also admitted driving while uninsured, was arrested January 23 after his blue Mercedes Benz SL500 was spotted in a car park dragging a lamp post beneath it.

Chairman of magistrates John Jakobi warned Pennant he could be jailed.

He gave him an interim driving ban but will wait for sentencing until March 1 by which time he will have read pre-sentence reports.

Prosecutor Rachel Sheppard stated that Pennant was stopped at around 6am by a police officer. She said his eyes were glazed, he was slurring his speech and he initially gave a false name.

Pennant was banned from driving for 16 months last February.
