German cup holders Schalke are falling apart.

After Andy Moller’s decision to quit at the season’s end defender Tomas Waldoch has been ruled out with injuryfor six weeks.

The Polish World Cup defender broke a bone in a leg in pre-season training in July then broke downafter 40 minutes of a specially arranged friendly against a mixture of reserve and youth players.

“I am so disappointed,” said Waldoch.

“I had hoped to be playing again in the Bundesliga in a week or so and even in the UEFA Cup.”

Veteran midfielder Moller said at the weekend that he would retire at the season’s end because he wanted to go out at the top.

Moller, a member of West Germany’s World Cup-winning squad in 1990, converted the decisive penalty when Germany beat England in a shootout in the Euro 96 semi-finals. He then missed the Final victory over Czech Republic through suspension.
