Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has signed a new two-year extension to his current deal with the club.

Scholes, 30, has spent his entire career at the club and his current deal will take him up until June 2009.

“Paul has given us 16 great years of service,” said manager Sir Alex Ferguson. “We hope his next four years is as good as his last four years.”

Scholes has played in 465 games for United, scoring 128 goals. He was capped 65 times by England before announcing his international retirement after Euro 20004.

Ferguson added: “He has deserved our loyalty because he has given us plenty back.”
