Sevilla have opened talks with manager Juande Ramos with a view to extending his current deal.

Ramos, who has attracted plaudits for his efforts at Sevilla, has been linked with the vacancy at Manchester City. Speculation that he could be lured away from Sevila has prompted the back-to-back Uefa Cup winners to open negotiations with the former Espanyol and Mallorca boss.

Ramos has a buy-out clause in his deal and Sevilla are keen to ward off potential suitors by agreeing new terms.

The Liga giants believe Ramos is happy at the club, although nothing will be finalised until the conclusion of the Liga season.

“He is in discussions with the club in order to get another contract,” confirmed a club spokesman. “At this moment, Juande publicly always says that he is happy here.

“He wants to continue and is waiting until after the league and cup to get a meeting with the president in order to make the arrangements for a new contract.”
