Chelsea’s Portuguese midfielder Tiago has arrrived in France to discuss a move to French champions Lyon.

Chelsea have agreed a fee of £6.8 million with Lyon, with the player now only having to agreee on personal terms before his exit can be confirmed.

The talented Portugal international failed to make a significant impact at Stamford Bridge following his £8m move from Benfica a year ago.

“All is practically closed and it is the best exit for Tiago as he wants to play more regularly,” confirmed jis agent Jorge Mendes.

The arrival at Chelsea of record signing Michael Essien – ironically from Lyon – has persuaded Tiago that he should move on if he wants regular first-team action.

“If I want to play the World Cup 2006, I need minutes,” conceded Tiago.

”With the arrival of Essien my situation was complicated and this proposition of Lyon is excellent.

”The option of the Champions League is magnificent.”
