Pato flew into Heathrow on Wednesday afternoon and was clearly delighted with the imminent move to Cobham.

“I need to play. I don’t know what else to say because I am just so happy to be here. I want to get to know my new team-mates and the players here and I really want to play for Chelsea.”

Pato was once touted as Brazil’s new golden boy after he had spent five successful years at Milan between 2007 and 2012 scoring 51 goals, however injuries have hampered his enormous potential.

He has not featured for Brazil since 2013 and has ten goals in 27 games for them.

Pato was linked with a move to the Chinese Super League and could have followed his countryman Ramires, however he wanted to join a club in Europe.

Interestingly, Pato said that he could have signed for Manchester Utd in the summer: “Two hours before [the window closed] I had a very good offer from Manchester United,” Pato explained to Sportv.
