Lionel Messi cuts gap at the top of ESM Golden Shoe standings

Real Madrid scored four against Celta Vigo at the weekend but surprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo, who leads the ESM Golden Shoe standings, was not among the goalscorers.

Meanwhile, his great rival, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, scored in his side’s 2-0 win at Espanyol, to take his tally to 36 for the season. With six rounds of La Liga to play, he now trails Ronaldo by 3 goals.

Rounding out the top three is Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, who has been in fantastic form in recent weeks. The French international scored two more in his side’s 3-0 win over Elche to make it 22 goals so far this season.

Behind Griezmann comes Manchester City Sergio Aguero who opened the scoring in his side’s 3-2 win over Aston Villa.

Elsewhere in the top ten there were goals for Red Bull Salzburg’s Jonatan Soriano, Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, Barcelona’s Neymar, and Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Eran Zahavi.
