New Porto coach Co Adriaanse has vowed to win back the Portuguese title after the club missed out to arch-rivals Benfica this season.

The Dutchman was appointed on Monday following the resignation of Jose Couceiro on Sunday.

“I can promise two things,” he said.

“The first is to win and clinch the title next season and the second is that the team will play very technical, attractive soccer,” he told a press conference on Tuesday.

Adriaanse, who guided AZ Alkmaar to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, has signed a two-year contract with the club.

“Regardless of the players I will find, I think I have the right conditions to build a good team. It’s a great challenge,” he added.

Porto finished three points behind Benfica, prompting Couceiro to stand down.
