Pompey, who sit just one place off the drop-zone, face a tricky home tie against Everton in the Premier League this Saturday lunchtime.

Defender Daniel Alves says he would like to see out his playing days with the Primera Liga leaders Barcelona.

The Brazilian, who had been linked with a move to Premier League side Chelsea in the UK press earlier this week, said: “I am thinking of making my life at Barca and if they carry on treating me as well as they are now I’d like to hang up my boots here.”

“For me, there is nothing better than being happy, and here I have found happiness for myself and also my family. When one is in a happy place there is no need or want to leave, therefore the rumours do not worry me,” Alves said.

He added: “They are players [Andres Iniesta and Messi] who owe a lot to the club and I am of the same opinion as them; that it would be a serious mistake to leave Barcelona.”
