Portugal centre-back Jorge Andrade will miss the World Cup and after undergoing surgery on his knee, Deportivo La Coruna have confirmed.

Andrade severed the patellar tendon in his left knee during Deportivo’s 3-2 defeat at Barcelona on Saturday.

“His injury is terrible news,” Scolari was quoted as saying in sports daily AS on Monday.

“If he wants, he can still accompany us in Germany because he is still part of the team.”

Portugal face Mexico, Iran and Angola at the finals which gets underway on June 9.

“Andrade’s injury is a great loss for us,” added Deportivo coach Joaquin Caparros.
