Nicolas Anelka has made the first tentative steps towards earning a recall to the the French team by initiating contact with national coach Jacques Santini.

in earning a recall to the French national side, after being told to make his peace with coach Jacques Santini by Lilian Thuram and Patrick Vieira.

Anelka had a very public bust-up with Santini in November 2002, turnng down the opportunity of a late call-up when he was left out of the original squad. However, after prompting by international colleagues Lilian Thuram and Patrick Vieira, Anelka has been persuaded to contact Santini.

The pair have now decided to meet up and will hold further talks – in the hope that they can establish peace.

Should Anelka make a public apology to Sanntini then he could be in line for a shock place at Euro 2004. Since Djibril Cisse was effectively ruled out of the squad when he was janded a six-match suspension, there has been a vacancy up front as cover for first choice pairing Thierry Henry and David Trezeguet.
