Nicolas Anelka has admitted he could leave Bolton Wanderers before the close of the transfer window.

The French striker has been linked with moves to Lyon and Manchester City following Bolton’s disappointing start to the new season.

He has ruled out a return to French football, but Anelka concedes he could be sold.

“Even if I feel comfortable at Bolton, the club needs money, so it is possible that I will leave before the close of the transfer window,” Anelka told Le Journal du Dimanche.

“I have nothing against Lyon.

“They are a good club, but I repeat it another time, I won’t come back and play in France.

“It is a definitive ‘no’. So there is zero per cent chance of me joining Lyon.”

Bolton boss Sammy Lee hinted Anelka could be on his way after drawing up a contingency plan in the event of the Frenchman’s departure.

Lee told the Bolton News: “You don’t want to lose quality players, but other things dictate.

“It would be remiss of me to get involved in the speculation, but all I would say is that everybody’s aware of his qualities and we are just making sure we have the right preparation, to cover for every eventuality.”
