Manchester City appear to be set to sell Nicolas Anelka, with a return to Liverpool looking a possibile destination as the Anfield club look to find a replacement for the injured Djibril Cisse.

City chairman John Wardle says he will listen to offers for the the club’s £13m record signing after admitting he was disappointed by the player’s comments about the club.

The much-travellled Anelka told a French magazine he wanted to play well at City to secure a move to a bigger club.

Liverpool and Marseille were reported Wednesday to have registered an interest and Wardle said he would listen to a bid.

City still Paris St Germain £5m for Anelka and they would be looking to recoup at least that amount before they were prepared to sell the French striker.

“So it would have to be well above that figure, obviously,” Wardle said.

Anelka, who has not played European football this season, would be eligible to play in the latter stages of the Champions League .
