Valencia midfielder Miguel Angel Angulo has been banned for seven matches by UEFA following his dimissal during an ill-tempered Champions League defeat by Werder Bremen earlier this month.

The Spanish international was sent for a tackle on Paraguayan striker Nelson Valdez, and Angulo also spat at Werder midfielder Tim Borowski as he was leaving the pitch in the closing minutes of the highly-charged match on December 7.

The Valencia midfielder apologised for his behaviour after the game.

Valencia have also been fined €26,000 euros by UEFA’s control and disciplinary body for their players’ conduct against Bremen. They had another five players booked and a scuffle broke out following Angulo’s dismissal.

Bremen were also fined €3,250 euros for their part in the fracas after the sending off.
