The Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, and the Ullevi Stadium in Gothenburg, have been chosen to host the 2004 Champions League and UEFA Cup finals respectively.

UEFA President Lennart Johansson confirmed : “We approved the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen, Germany as the venue for the 2004 UEFA Champions League final and the Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg as the venue for the 2004 UEFA Cup final.”

With a capacity of 54,100, the Arena AufSchalke is one of Europe’s newest venues. It is home to Bundesliga club Schalke 04, who played their first match there in August 2001. The stadium, regarded as a modern architectural marvel, has a retractable roof and the pitch slides in and out of the bowl.

Meanwhile, the Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg, with a 43,000 capacity, has staged two previous UEFA club finalsÿ- the European Cup Winners’ Cup final in 1983 and 1990.
