U.S. coach Bruce Arena believes the United States should be seeded at next year’s World Cup finals.

Arena said: “The United States has done what is necessary in the region to deserve it.”

The U.S. won the CONCACAF regional qualifying tournament and lie eighth in FIFA’s world rankings, one place behind Mexico, who came second in the qualifying section.

Eight teams will be top-seeded in the draw for the finals that takes place in Leipzig on Friday, December 9. Holders Brazil and hosts Germany are the only two countries guaranteed to be seeded and there has been much discussion about the criteria employed by FIFA to determine the remaining seeds.

FIFA will use their own formula to based on previous World Cup records, recent results and FIFA rankings.
