Italian police have issued a warrant for the arrest of former Lazio president Giorgio Chinaglia.
Chinaglia, a former Lazio striker, is wanted for the attempted extortion of current club chief Claudio Lotito.
Eight other people were arrested Friday for suspected market rigging and extortion of Lotito in a bid to get to him to sell the club, police added Friday.
The police said they had investigated a 34 percent jump in the value of Lazio shares earlier this year after false information was circulated about a bid for the club.
“The warrants regard communications, which lacked any basis in fact, which were circulated in the early months of this year by a few individuals about how a foreign group was interested in buying a controlling stake in the club,” the police statement
