Arsenal are reported to be lining up a bid for Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Rene Adler.

As the Gunners look for an alternative to German international Jens Lehmann, the 20-year-old impressed scouts at the recent Fifa World Youth Championship.

The talented youngster has become a target for Arsene Wenger following the collapse of Uruguayan Sebastian Viera’s move earlier this month. Leverkusen are aware the North London side are pursuing Adler.

“We know about the interest from Arsenal,” said Leverkusen managing director Michael Reschke.

“Rene is a strong, young goalkeeper whose contract is running out and it’s obvious that clubs are interested in him,” he added.
