Arsenal are prepared to offer manager Arsene Wenger a job for life.

The Premier League leaders will sit down with their coach at the end of the season to negotiate a new deal for Wenger which will keep him at Arsenal until at least 2008.

“He can stay here as long as he wants to go on for,’ Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood old the London Evening Standard. ‘He has done a tremendous job

“I first went to Highbury as a child with my grandfather and I honestly think this side that Arsene has built is the best I have ever seen.

‘It was a great pity that we lost those two games against Manchester United in the FA Cup and against Chelsea in the Champions League but the players have shown what character they have in the two games since.

“With the kind of football they have have played, the Championship is the least they deserve.

“We haven’t talked about Arsene’s new contract yet because he has had other things on his mind. But we will sit down at the end of the season and I don’t see any problem in agreeing a new deal.”
