Atletico Madrid are to retain caretaker coach Pepe Murcia until the end of the season.

Murcia was appointed after Los Rojiblancos decided to sack Argentine Carlos Bianchi following a poor run of results.

It was reported that Atletico would move for a new manager with former Deportivo La Coruna chief Javier Irureta tipped to become their next coach.

However, club president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed that Murcia would be in charge until the end of the season.

“The idea is for Murcia to continue until the end of the season,” Cerezo told the Spanish media.

“It’s illogical that we would think about a change now.

“We have not intensified our search for a new coach.”
