FIFA president Sepp Blatter has confirmed that Australia will move into the Asian qualifying group in time for the 2010 World Cup.

The move was confirmed by the world football body’s Executive Committee meeting in Frankfurt ahead of the Confederations Cup final between Brazil and Argentina.

“The Executive Committee decided that the transfer of the Australian Football Federation into the Asian Confederation has been ratified,” Blatter said.

“All parties involved are happy.”

Australia normally stroll through the Oceania qualifying group but then they must face the fifth placed South American team.
