Bosko Balaban’s Aston Villa nightmare could soon be behind him as Club Brugge move close to finalising a deal to take on the Croatian outcast.

It is believed that Brugge have already held talks with the striker earlier this week after a planned move to Serie A strugglers Empoli fell through because of a lack of non-European Union slots in their squad.

The move would come as a huge relief to the 25-year-old Balkan who has been without a club since terminating his contract with Villa at the beginning of December last year.

Brugge will be hoping he will be able to regain the form that saw him bag 15 goals in just 18 games on loan at Dinamo Zagreb.

In contrast, at Villa Park he made just eight first team appearances in two and a half years and never started a Premiership game.
