Spanish League leaders Barcelona are likely to rest Brazilian star Ronaldinho for the weekend’s Liga match against Levante as they bid to stay a point ahead of nearest challengers Sevilla.

Ronaldinho will sit out the Levante game in a bid to be fresh for next week’s decisive Champions League encounter against Werder Bremen, a match that the European champions must win to avoid crashing out of the competition.

Barcelona are already without key forwards Samuel Eto’o, Lionel Messi and Javier Saviola, all injured, so coach Frank Rijkaard will rely on Icelandic star Eidur Gudjohnsen for goals against Levante.

Brazilian Thiago Motta looks likely to step in as a replacement for Ronaldinho in midfield.
