Barcelona have taken up their option to buy Argentine midfielder Juan Roman Riquelme from Boca Juniors.
‘Barcelona have acquired the remaining 50 percent of the rights to Juan Roman Riquelme, which until now were shared with his previous club Boca Juniors,’ saida statement on the Barcelona website.
The player will cost Barcelona an additional €5 million on top of the €6 million they paid Boca Juniors in the summer.
Riquelme began the season on the bench, but persiistent calls for his inclusion from Barca supporters, allied to an injury to Luis Enrique, persuaded coach Louis Van Gaal to give him an extended run in the team.
