Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta insists that Pep Guardiola remains committed to the club’s ‘long-term project’.
Reports in Spain have suggested that Guardiola is Sir Alex Ferguson first choice to become the next Manchester United manager when he finally decides to retire.
Guardiola was offered a six-year deal by Barcelona in the summer by incoming president Sandro Rosell, but preferred to sign up for just two more seasons.
However, Zubizarreta is not worried about losing him in the near future.
“If Ferguson is thinking that way, he has excellent taste,” the former Barca and Spain goalkeeper told Ona FM.
“But everybody knows the ties Guardiola has with Barca, which go far beyond the contract he has.”
Zubizarreta further reassured supporters by adding: “There is nothing we are keeping (from people) and nothing holding us back – we are working on a long-term project.”
