Liverpool’s Champions League prospects received a boost with the news that Milan Baros may have recovered from a hamstring injury to play in next week’s decisive final group game with Olympiakos.

The striker picked up the injury in the Czech Republic’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win in Macedonia only a fortnight ago. Initial reports suggested he would be out for up to six weeks but the striker is ahead of schedule and keen to face the Greek side.

“Milan says he wants to play against Olympiakos and if everything goes OK there is a chance he will,” said Rafael Benítez.

“He’s jogging, so he could be ready in time for that game. It will give us options if he is fit and can make it, but we will have to wait and see.

“I don’t want to use him too early and risk losing him for another two months.”
