Bayern Munich honorary president Franz Beckenbauer has dismissed claims the Bundesliga leaders will try to sign Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko this summer.
Dzeko, the leading scorer in the Bundesliga this season, has been linked with a move away from Wolfsburg, but Beckenbauer says that Bayern have no need to strengthen their attack.
”As much as I like Dzeko, Bayern do not need another striker,” he told Bild. ”On the contrary, when Luca Toni comes back from (his loan spell at) Roma, he will be added to the squad.
”Where we do need urgent strengthening, however, is in defence. We concede too many goals. We must also look for a goalkeeper. (Hans-Jorg) Butt has had a strong season but he is not one for the future.”
