England captain David Beckham has backed Real Madrid’s attempt to sign Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The striker’s agent says Madrid have offered a world-record €70m for the Swede.

“We are talking about one of the best strikers in the world,” said Beckham.

“He is tall, strong, has good technique and creates chances. He is a great player.”

“The amount of money that is being moved is incredible, but that has been the way for a while now,” he added.

“Teams always have to reinforce and a team such as Madrid always has to make big signings if they are to remain competitive.

“I am one of those players in the team who is getting older and it is always good to have a big squad to help you through the season,” he continued.

“I am disappointed at another season without having won anything. We will have to work hard next season to try to change things.”
