Besiktas have sacked Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque after less than eight months in charge, according to reports in Turkey.

Besiktas were expected to replace him with Rizespor coach Riza Calimbay.

“The Besiktas board decided to part company with Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque after the disappointing results. Rize coach Riza Calimbay is expected to be brought in,” said a report in the Radikal newspaper.

The Spaniard has been under pressure for several weeks but last weekend’s cup defeat to Konyaspor appears to have been the final nail in his coffin.

Besiktas appointed the former Real Madrid coach last June, but with the club lyingfifth in the first division, 14 points behind leaders Fenerbahce and out of the UEFA Cup, the board has decided to terminater his contract with immediate effect.

The final straw was their elimination from the Turkish Cup at the weekend when they lost 3-1 to Konyaspor.
