Chievo centre forward Oliver Bierhoff has signalled his intention to retire from the game at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old has not been in the best form of late and feels it may be time to call it a day while he is still near the top.

“I’m 99 percent sure that this will be my final term as a professional, but I know that I don’t intend to become a coach,” he said.

“I already work for Coca-Cola and Nike. And seeing as the 2006 World Cup is on the horizon, I hope to be employed by the organising committee.”

Oliver Bierhoff played 70 times for the German national side, scoring 37 goals. Thehighlight of his career will surely remain the European Championship finals in 1996, when he burst onto the international scene, scoring both goals in Germany’s 2-1 final victory over The Czech Republic.
