with a new deal

Surprise Bundesliga high-fliers Bochum have extended coach Peter Neururer’s contract by a further two years until June 2007.

Neururer took charge of Bochum in December 2001 when they were in the 2. Bundesliga. Since then he has led them to promotion and this season they look on course to qualify for European competition. Currently in fourth position, they are just three points behind Stuttgart, who occupy the third and final Champions League qualification berth.

“I have been thinking about offering him a new contract for two months now,” said Bochum chairman Werner Altegoer.

“I know that we weren’t in a hurry, but I felt that the time was right.”

Neururer was happy to extend his stay at Bochum.

“It shows that the club recognise what I am doing,” he said.

“In times like these it is not normal for a coach to have a long-term deal.”
