Former Newcastle United defender Titus Bramble has joined Wigan on a free transfer, the club have confirmed.

The 25-year-old becomes manager Chris Hutchings’ first signing since he took over from Paul Jewell as Wigan coach last month.

“This is an excellent signing for us. He will add experience to the back four and now we must keep up the chase for further targets,” Hutchings told www.wiganlatics.co.uk

“Other clubs were very interested and it speaks volumes for us as a club that he has chosen to come here.”

Bramble joined Newcastle from Ipswich in 2002, but performed erratically suring his time at St James’ Park, and was told his contract would not be renewed upon new coach Sam Allardyce’s arrival at the club.
