Werder Bremen hare the latest club to express an interest in signing Kaiserslautern’s German international striker Miroslav Klose.

Werder, who recently sold Brazilian striker Ailton to rivals Schalke, have now targeted 25-year-old Klose as his replacement.

“Klose would be the best possible option for the Ailton succession, but at the moment we wouldn’t be able to afford him,” said Bremen director of sport Klaus Allofs.

Klose, who rose to prominence at last year’s World Cup, where his goals helped Germany to a place in the final, will be allowed to leave in 2004 for only €5 million. Ê
