Cagliari have sacked coach Pierpaolo Bisoli following their poor start to the season.
Sunday’s home defeat to Genoa left Cagliari languishing in 17th spot in Serie A with only two wins all season.
Bisoli took charge of Cagliari in the summer following Massimilano Allegri’s departure to Milan.
A club statement confirmed: “Cagliari Calcio and Pierpaolo Bisoli have reached an agreement to end their working relationship. Unfortunately, in football you depend on results and many times you are forced to take decisions that contrast with human feelings.
“Bisoli is and will always be a great coach. From this adventure he can leave with his head held high because of the technical and human characteristics that he has.”
Former Italy and Napoli boss Roberto Donadoni and ex-Italy Under 21 coach Pierluigi Casiraghi have both been linked with the vacancy.
