Fabio Capello has dismissed reports claiming he had been in contact with Tottenham Hotspur regarding the manager’s job.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy stated on Thursday that current boss Martin Jol has his ‘100 per cent support’ after a week of speculation.

Levy’s statement came after he given the opportunity to talk to former Real Madrid coach Capello by sports lawyer Mel Goldberg.

“There has been a lot of press speculation about Spurs and their manager,” Goldberg told the Daily Express.

“So I contacted Daniel Levy on Wednesday and asked him if he wanted a meeting with Capello, as he was available in London and could have a meeting.

“Daniel Levy said ‘No, I’ve got a manager, I don’t need to meet him’.

“I did meet Capello, Spurs did not set up the meeting, it was not at Spurs’ request, I was meeting him about something else.”

Capello was in London on Thursday, but has also dismissed any suggestion of a link with Spurs.

“I came to London because two weeks ago, I agreed to meet the chairman and the manager of the US national team who wanted my advice on a number of issues,” said Capello.

“I was then approached by Mel Goldberg, who asked if he could talk to me and said he wanted to represent me in England.

“We had a brief chat and when I went outside there were a lot of paparazzi waiting and I realised there was something going on.

“But I never, never contacted Tottenham and nor did Tottenham contact me.”
