Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is confident Rafa Benitez will stay at Anfield, despite reports linking the former Valencia coach with a return to Spain as the next coach of Real Madrid.

Wanderley Luxemburgo’s future at El Santiago Bernabeu has been the subject of speculation after Real slumped to their third successive defeat last weekend and Benitez is believed to be the man Real have earmarked as potential successor.

Carragher, though, believes that Benitez is committed to the cause at Anfield.

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing him (Benitez) getting linked there, it just shows that you’ve got a good manager,” Carragher told Sky Sports News.

“What you would probably call the most successful club side in world football if they want your manager it shows you’ve got a good manager.

“He doesn’t have to say anything (about the speculation). We are all sure he’s dedicated to Liverpool.

“He’s signed a four or five-year contract and has only just started. I’m sure he wants to be here for a few more years yet and win a few more trophies.”
