Group D
Basle v Juventus

The Swiss side need a 4-0 scoreline and they then must hope that Deportivo La Coruna can beat group winners Manchester United to ensure their passage to the next round. This will leave them level on points with Juventus, but their superior head to head record will see the Swiss side through.

Basle coach Christian Gross has said that his team are not expected to win andso can take a more relaxed attitude to the game.

“The task seems very difficult but people must bear in mind that nobody expects anything form us and therefore my players can approach this match with a very relaxed attitude which, on occasion, inspires football players to be at their best.”

Basle are set to welcome back several key players from injury with Christian Gimenez, Antonio Esposito, Ivan Ergic and Marco Zwyssig all set to play.

Juventus will be missing key midfielder Edgar Davids who will be suspended, as well as Marco Di Vaio and Antonio Conte who are both injured. Alessandro Del Piero could also play a part in the match tonight after being included in the squad.

Juventus coach Marcello Lippi has insisted though that Del Piero will not play for a full match.

“I will consider putting him on later in the match, not only for him to get match practice but because I think he might be able to contribute something to our game,” said Lippi.
