A bizarre – almost comic – second-half own-goal by Mavrogenidis helped Rosenberg to a vital 3-1 victory away to Greek champions Olympiakos.
Forty seven minutes into the match, a speculative long range cross from deep on the right flank bounced awkwardly, evading three players before finally falling to the defender who, on attempting to clear the ball, turned it into his own net.
It was Olympiakos who had much the better of the opening exchanges, however, taking the lead on 19 minutes, coincidentally, through an own goal scored by Lago.
The Norwegians equalized shortly before half time when Skjelbred scored, only to lose the game by virtue of Mavrogenidis’ mistake and a last minute effort by Storflor, that effectively killed the game off.
