Chelsea are prepared to rival Manchester Unitedin the race to sign PSV Eindhoven’s Arjen Robben, according to the Dutch club.

The free-spending London club have made an enquiry about the 19-year-old forward and given their huge resuorces, could certainly outbid United for his signature.

PSV chairman Harry van Raaij revealed he had spoken to Chelsea officials about the availability of Robben.

“We spoke about several business, but indeed Chelsea also asked about Robben,” van Raaij told Dutch daily De Telegraaf.

“Chelsea for example wanted to know how the negotiations with Manchester United were.

“I have told them we are waiting for a continuation appointment.”

United held preliminary talks with the player last month and invited to look around Old Trafford.
