Wigan full-back Pascal Chimbonda looks set for a move to Tottenham after Spurs had a bid for the defender accepted.
The 27-year-old handed in a transfer request on the final day of the 2005-06 season, but Wigan have refused to sell until a club matches their valuation of the player.
On their website, the Wigan said that Spurs had offered the “biggest fee Wigan have ever received for one of their players”.
“I had a price in mind all along and was never prepared to accept anything less than that,” Wigan boss Paul Jewell told Wigan’s website.
“I feel we have achieved that goal.
“No one knew the name Pascal Chimbonda in this country 12 months ago, now he is one of the most recognisable faces in the Premiership.”
Chimbonda signed for Wigan in a £500,000 deal in July 2005, and his performances last season earned him a surprise call-up for France’s Word Cup squad.
