Auxerre and France striker Djibril Cisse has signed an extension to his current contract that will keep him at the French club until 2007.

Cisse has attracted attention from all over Europe after hisperformances for Auxerre in the last couple of years, and, at 21, is a regular fixture in the French national squad.

Interest is most acute for him in the Premiership. Arsenal have been strongly linked to him the powerful forward, as well as Liverpool and Manchester United. But Auxerre, under the astute and experienced leadership of Guy Roux, have managed to secure the services of a player who is vital to the club’s success and development as a European force.

Widely seen as the best French talent for a number of years, he has added one more year to his contract that was set to end in 2006.

Although they were knocked out of the Champions League, Auxerre are still in the UEFA Cup, and face a second leg at home against Real Betis next week, after losing the first leg in Spain 1-0.
