Real Sociedad finished second in Group D after drawing 0-0 with Turkish club Galatasaray.

The result was too close for comfort for Sociedad’s Turkish Interantional Nihat Kahveci.

“We wasted so many chances,” he said. “It should never have been so close.”

The Spainish club are now faced with meeting the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Milan, but coach Raynald Denoueix relishes the prospect of playing in either England or Italy.

“All the teams in the last 16 are very good but I would prefer to play an English or Italian team just for a change of venue,” he said. G

alatasaray coach Fatih Terim was happy to finish third and qualify for the UEFA Cup.

“We wanted to wait in our half and try to score on the break,” he said.

“We managed that, but their goal was very simple. But we have qualified and the future is long.”
