Lyon’s players are confident that they are on the brink of a third successive Ligue 1 title after their 1-0 victory over Bastia on Wednesday.

With two games remaining they have a four-point lead over Monaco and are six ahead of third-placed Paris St Germain.

“We’re not far,” striker Sidney Govou said. “Two points would be enough, and maybe even one. We can say we’ve taken a big step.

“Between us, we’re confident. But we don’t want to claim victory before it’s there,” Govou added.

Lyon’s superior goal difference means that even if they finished level on points with Monaco or PSG, who they play on Saturday, they would probably still win the title.

“We’re going faster than the others,” said coach Paul Le Guen of the title race. ‘It’s probably not by chance. We don’t concede many goals.

“We can only be satisfied but we have two games left and we will only be relieved once we get what we’re looking for,” he added.
